Shelves are 50cm in width inside the side panels and 95mm deep after the furthest forward stopper, with the stopper you have 109mm depth of shelf.

Can you paint the MDF Stands
Yes you can please read
When you paint them you are adding more material to the surface of the MDF. Increasing the thickness and this will stop the stands from being assembled.
The easy solution is to assemble the stand and then either with a pencil mark the areas where the parts slide together and paint to this line.
Spray painting the stands is a good option also whilst they are built, as this stop paint getting into the slots.
We have had lovely results using " Painter's Touch by Rust-oleum " in a spray can
